Program description:
- House of Hospitality for those who are on the Streets.
- Have coffee and enjoy conversation or assist with the shower line.
- This program works specifically with the chronically homeless in Midtown, four days a week. Its basic foundation is friendship and they are looking for volunteers who are willing to spend time developing one on one relationships with the guests who arrive around noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and Saturdays for lunch, board games, and conversation. Once a relationship has been established, it may be that the volunteer takes his or her new friend to the grocery store, or to the Social Security office or the VA, and acts as an advocate (e.g. helping garner information, fill out paper work), and just simply checks in with this new friend to see how he or she is doing.
