- Note: No Spanish skills necessary to volunteer! 99% of the children are fluent in both English and Spanish. Yet, if you want to put yourself in an atmosphere where you can have the opportunity to practice your spanish, this is the site for you!
Casa Maria volunteers understand the important role they play in the children’s education. Most of these children go home everyday where they primarily speak spanish and, as a result, they continue to fall behind in comparison to their peers. At the same time, these children grow to see their Spanish as something that has held them back rather than something to hold on to. Because of this sad reality, I encourage any Spanish language enthusiasts to come out and practice your spanish with the older children who are already comfortable with their English. But, I stress, Spanish speaking skills is not a prerequisite to volunteering at Casa Maria.
